PRODUCT STRATEGY

  • Develop a multi-year product strategy, informed by trends, partner and internal capabilities and consumer insights. Your strategy should differentiate Experian's value proposition and lead long-term positive user outcomes.
  • Lead the end-to-end product vision and roadmap, from discovery to launch and iteration, including user research, experience design, value proposition prioritization, engineering execution, testing, go-to-market, and funnel optimization.

 

PRODUCT MANAGEMENT AND GROWTH

  • Advance Up powered by Experian, ensuring seamless integration into the broader Experian data strategy and ecosystem
  • Value proposition expansion to extend users' personal finance journey from education and monitoring to protection, lending, savings, debt management, etc.
  • Drive the go-to-market strategy and planning for new value propositions and continued user volume growth and positive user experience.
  • Instill legal, regulatory, governance and risk compliance both internally and by partners, meeting all requirements related to South African Consumers, setting business and compliance standards for Up powered by Experian.
  • Define and prioritize product features, user stories, and acceptance criteria, taking on responsibilities typical of a Product Owner to ensure development aligns with strategic goals
  • Monitor data processes to ensure that alternative data is captured, de-identified and maintained in such a manner as to enable accurate reporting, product performance monitoring and to facilitate productization and monetization of this alternative data asset (as per business strategy).
  • Monitor product performance through key metrics and analytics to ensure continuous improvement
  • Drive positive portrayal of the ECS brand on public platforms (e.g. social media, formal media, in-person events) through active participation, effective monitoring and pro-active management.
  • Identify and test opportunities for rapid expansion through 3rd parties and Experian solutions that are elsewhere available.

 

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM ENGAGEMENT

  • Be the primary product contact for ECS-related inquiries and decisions, considering and engaging with Experian colleagues both locally and in other markets to drive product growth.
  • Work directly with internal engineering, content, analytics, data, consumer care and legal teams as well as third-party partners to scope and create product features that meet requirements and enhance platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with content, marketing and design teams as well as 3rd parties to develop go-to-market plans that attract users Up value propositions to grow user numbers and to increase engagement among current members.
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory requirements through pro-active tracking, reporting and cross-checking of product operations and data flows with the respective regulatory, data and consumer care teams.

 

TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Mentoring and developing the ECS South African team
  • Grow the ECS team as the D2C product evolution dictates.
  • Manage both direct reports and indirect teams ensuring successful goals achievement

 

DRIVE MONETIZATION

  • Take full ownership of the product's P&L, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business/Marketing, or a related technical field (preferred)
  • 10+ years experience as a Product Manager in Financial Services
  • Experience launching products from concept through release, focusing on meeting customer needs (Jobs to Be Done).
  • Experienced in primary product management practices: defining user stories and requirements, developing wireframes, running A/B and multivariate tests, and analyzing product performance at scale.
  • Experience working in Agile or Lean environments, collaborating across product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams.
  • Experience communicating product updates, milestones, and progress to internal and external partners, with the ability to align diverse partners.
  • Experience mentoring and developing product managers or product owners to improve team capability and effectiveness.
  • Experience in dealing with the unique challenges of D2C product management, including stakeholder management, customer needs, UX requirements, P&L management to drive financial success, and the skills of a Product Owner to manage backlogs.
  • Experience building data-oriented products.
  • Knowledge of financial services is necessary.
  • A very good understanding of the South African consumer landscape (various markets)
  • Keen understanding of data privacy and consumer rights in the South African legal context

The following would be highly advantageous

  • MBA is a plus
  • Experience in subprime markets is a significant plus
