The role is perfect for those wishing to expand their technical knowledge as a pursuit of further specialism or equally a rounding out of experience in a fast-paced region with scope to make an impact.

 Much more than a solely technical role you will be responsible for driving controllership strategy and improvements, representing a real opportunity to blend technical expertise, partnering and process transformation.

 Managing both the internal and external control environment including the market Statutory accounts, Audit and Taxation processes, you will be the owner of the Experian Spain Accounting and Control reporting into the Regional Financial Controller with the Southern cluster CFO as your key stakeholder.  You will also work closely with the Financial Controller for our Axesor Companies based in our Sofia GDC.

 To deliver this role successfully you will also need to work closely with the Spain Leadership Team, local Business Partners, FP&A teams, Market and Regional controllership teams as well as the Shared Services Centre; quickly understanding and navigating the delivery model for this fast-paced market.

 This role also offers strong commercial exposure, business partnering opportunities, management and leadership opportunities across the extended team and the chance to leave a lasting impact across the Spain business.

 The EMAP Accounting and Control team are the gatekeepers of Finance in the region. Responsibility for implementation and adherence to Group and Local Accounting standards is only part of it - the team play a key part in:

  •  Delivering of Actuals and Month End; including key controls such as balance sheet reconciliations and manual journal approval
  • -        IFRS15 Revenue Recognition judgements
  • -        Developing a robust control framework whilst driving excellent data quality for decision making
  • -        Balance Sheet health and risk management
  • -        Cash flow Forecasting and management of Capex Budget
  • -        Audit and Statutory obligations
  • -        Local and Group tax requirements
  • -        Management & identification of accounting risk and opportunity
  • -        Key involvement in the evolution and optimization of Accounting and Control processes both in EMAP and Group wide
  • -        Oversight of the Spain billing systems

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Drive Controllership Excellence and Transformation within Spain

-        Maintain and develop best in class Financial Controls across all areas

-        Including adherence to both group and local accounting policies, including coordination of new standards and requirements as they are implemented.

-        Build on existing processes to establish a robust control environment ensuring quality and completeness of Spain Balance sheet whilst ensuring data quality and minimizing risk.

-        Work with the wider EMAP Controllership cohort in pursuit of efficient, standardized approaches across the EMAP region including sharing of best practice and networking with other market FC’s; work to eliminate market specific process

-        Identify and manage Accounting Risk, including assessment of any impairment risk

-        Optimize processes through increased automation

-        Management of external relationships with Accounting providers and Auditors

-        Active involvement in the entity simplification program 

Manage Market Audit and Statutory Processes

-        Delivery of timely and accurate Statutory Accounts across the Spain market

-        Management of market Audit process including attending meetings with within Experian and with the auditors

-        Ensure control and quality is reflected in minimization of Audit management letter points

-        Expedite market signing dates vs prior year

-        Manage process for completion of tax returns with third party provider; ensuring on time delivery and accurate information

-        Ensure adherence to capital adequacy requirements and work with group to align on any funding required

Mannagement of Experian Group relationship and associated reporting 

  • -        Build strong relationships with Group Tax, Treasury and Financial Reporting teams to ensure any arising issues or decisions can be managed proactively
  • -        Support Group Tax with requests and help drive process and tax efficiency
  • -        Work closely with Treasury to identify market cash trends, any remittance required and funding requirements
  • -        Lead any accounting policy queries or updates with the Group Financial Reporting team as required

 

1.      Revenue Assurance

  •  Work with the Spain Revenue team, EMAP Financial Controller and Group Revenue team to ensure completeness and accuracy of Accrued and Deferred positions including contract costs.
  • -        Ensure all revenue contracts are correctly accounted for under IFRS15
  • -        Provide insight and recommendation for Commercial Finance teams on revenue recognition approach.

Experience and Skills

 

  • -        Qualified to degree level
  • -        Chartered Accountant qualification or equivalent
  • -        Advanced excel skills
  • -        Ability to influence stakeholders 
  • -        Strong relationship builder
  • -        Ability to be proactive and work independently, with the skill to adapt and drive change where necessary 
  • -        Problem solving skills
  • -        Experience working with IFRS would be highly advantageous

Experience:

  • -        Minimum-3 years’ experience working with big 4 audit firms
  • -        Excellent communicator – both written and verbal
  • -        Demonstrable team leadership both for direct and indirect teams (on and offshore)
  • -        Strong interpersonal skills – ability to form and leverage relationships locally and remotely
  • -        Excellent existing technical knowledge
  • -        Ability to see the big picture and respond accordingly – when to drive for perfection and when to drive for speed
  • -        Experience of statutory processes and Audit
  • -        Experience of influencing senior leaders within Finance
  • -        Highly numerate with ability to draw meaningful conclusions and drive actions from financial analysis
  • -        Demonstrable record of process improvement to drive efficiency and quality
  • -        Oracle, Essbase and HFM knowledge a plus but not compulsory
  • -        Ability to scale and deliver on multiple concurrent projects
  • -        Experience in a global, matrix organization
