Job description

As part of the team building People Technology tools, you will contribute directly to shaping the digital experiences that power our HR lifecycle — from performance to engagement and beyond. As a Backend Engineer, you'll architect and maintain scalable, secure, and backend services that underpin our custom applications. While the main focus is backend development, your TypeScript skills will allow you to collaborate across the stack, influencing frontend integrations, APIs, and developer tooling. You'll help build modern engineering practices, accelerate delivery through pipelines, and build reliable infrastructure that scales with our missions.

  • Develop backend services using TypeScript and JavaScript.
  • Collaborate with frontend and platform teams to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Create Docker containers and support Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, with Jenkins, to ensure streamlined deployment.
  • Develop infrastructure using AWS services and ensure cost-effective, secure operations.
  • Improve backend systems for performance and reliability, including legacy codebase debugging.
  • Work with both relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL and MongoDB) to design efficient data models and queries.
  • Participate in code reviews, version control workflows (Git), and enforce coding best practices.
  • Contribute to observability through logging and monitoring tools.
  • Support integration and configuration of headless CMS platforms.
  • You'll report to a Product Development Manager.

Required skills

Essential

  • TypeScript & JavaScript: backend experience, clean code principles (SOLID), unit testing, debugging legacy services.
  • Docker & Containerization: Creating/managing Dockerfiles, container orchestration, Kubernetes familiarity.
  • AWS: Proficiency with EC2, ECS, S3, IAM, deployment and scaling in cloud environments.
  • Networking: understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancers in service architecture.
  • Git: Advanced use of Git workflows, PRs, versioning, and conflict resolution.
  • Databases: CRUD operations, indexing, and schema design with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
  • CI/CD: Jenkins familiarity, CI troubleshooting, test & deploy pipelines.

Good to have:

  • Headless CMS: Experience with Directus, Strapi, or similar tools.
  • OpenSearch/Elasticsearch: Indexing, health, and query optimization.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform-based environment setup and deployment.
  • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack or similar tools for system monitoring.
