Director of Innovation, Experian Marketing Services

Our innovation team is tasked with accelerating our aggressive growth trajectory by translating new ideas into reality. We are looking for someone with the product development expertise to help us expand our portfolio and enter new categories. Reporting into the Vice President of Product Management, this role will be responsible for a broad range of activities with the goal of enhancing Experian Marketing Service’s product portfolio, capabilities and strategic focus, playing an integral role in the businesses’ future direction and ultimate success. We will be developing a variety of products in the coming months, so we are looking for someone with drive, hustle, and the experience needed to hit the ground running.

Job Responsibilities:

The Director of Innovation will have three areas of focus:

[Tactical Innovation] Deliver Innovation from idea to implementation, including collaboration with VOC/Insights & New Product Development
o Report to the VP of Product Management.
o Work closely with the Experian Marketing Services Leadership Team to select strategic domains of focus for the business on an ongoing basis
o Refine our current agile framework of tactical innovation activities to evaluate and de-risk new ideas as well as demonstrate throughput as ideas evolve into product launches
o Manage innovation projects in a timely and cost-effective manner; define and document project details
o Partner with the Product Management team to conduct exploratory market research and support on validation exercises as needed to gather external evidence of market opportunities
o Recruit and facilitate cross-function teams of (internal and external) User Experience (UX) experts, product developers, and Business Analysts (BA) to:
 Participate in innovation projects and develop initial concepts/product solutions
 Conduct rapid validation activities (concept design sprints, journey mapping, prototype development, client/consumer validation, etc.) to confirm feasibility and fit of concepts that will deliver in strategic growth areas for the business
 Build comprehensive business cases with compelling evidence-based ROI and strategic value to the business, and present recommendations to for leadership review and incremental funding decisions
o Work closely with external and/or internal New Product Development teams to build selected concepts into minimum viable product (MVP) pilots through an iterative pilot process with existing/new clients and end users to demonstrate evidence of market adoption
o Consult with product management leadership to migrate successful candidates into the business, with an accepted plan and roadmap for scaling the solution
o Partner with Strategy, Product Management and Product Development to track Key Performance Indicators to measure product success
o Establish critical innovation metrics to measure Innovation department performance

[Strategic Innovation] Lead Business Unit Innovation Strategy

o Serve as the innovation framework leader for the business unit, adopting and integrating a global innovation best practices framework as set forth by Experian Global
o Participate in regional innovation meetings with other business unit innovation leaders, sharing best practices and applying new learnings from applicable lessons learned
o Support the Head of Business and Product Strategy to define strategic focus areas that align with business goals
o Support Experian corporate development team to identify and evaluate M&A build/buy/partner candidates that could bridge gaps in innovation opportunities
o Connect with internal partners, including regional and global innovation programs across the Experian business

Create and manage an Innovation Program

o Work with the SIM SVP to build an internal innovation program to foster a grassroots culture of innovation
o Conduct structured internal events and activities that align with business objectives
o Build criteria for acceptance and vetting of ideas for the business
o Be an internal and external champion of innovation for the Experian Marketing Services business


o Bachelors of Science or equivalent field of study required. Masters of Business Administration strongly desired
• Project management certification: in PMP, Scrum and other project management principles a plus
• Product management certification: Pragmatic Marketing certification a plus
7 years or more of marketing services industry experience in similar and/or complimentary roles is preferred
o 7 years of experience managing cross-functional teams and subject matter experts is required
o 7+ years of innovation strategy and implementation required, including experience in design and facilitation of strategic domain identification, design sprint facilitation, jobs-to-be-done discovery, client co-development discussions, consumer testing, and pilot program design
o Strong grasp of design thinking, journey mapping, jobs-to-be-done, product development and product management best practices. Creative and proactive problem solver comfortable working in a fluid and evolving strategic environment. Market- and data--based decision maker.
o Critical thinking; removing obstacles and driving results; using sound judgment to accurately analyze information and make solid recommendations; balance strategic direction and guidance with tactical detail and expertise. Able to lead with influence
o Ability to: problem solve; multitask; work with little formal guidelines and direction; make decisions using the appropriate level of information; provide appropriate guidance to others; balance external and internal requirements
o Effectively manage innovation projects, meet Key Performance Indicators and deliver exceptional results on time
o Professional, positive, and outgoing demeanor. An entrepreneurial spirit paired with exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
o Travel may be required based upon project specific requirements (estimated 10-15%).
